Femme Fatale: Birth of Venus, August 2016

Hi lovelies! I'll be sharing the newest collection from Femme Fatale Cosmetics, releasing today. These enchanting colors are inspired by a timeless masterpiece and ancient mythology: Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus."

Femme Fatale Arrival of Venus

Arrival of Venus is a burnt orange shimmer with a very strong linear holographic effect. It can also look like a dusty coral color in certain lights. The formula was silky-smooth and easy to apply and looked opaque in two coats. Pictured here is three coats with top coat.

Femme Fatale Breath of Zephyros

Breath of Zephyros is described as a blue-toned grey linear holographic with strong blue flash and small-sized golden holo glitters. This had a very good formula that went on smoothly and evenly with full coverage in 2-3 coats. Here I have on three coats and a generous coat of top coat, which smoothed the glitter out nicely.

Femme Fatale Floral Rain

Floral Rain is a dark forest-green jelly full of tiny silver holo glitters with a strong iridescent pink/copper/green overlay. I was very impressed with this formula-- it was super easy to work with and get smooth, even coats. Shown here is three coats and a generous coat of top coat.

Femme Fatale Golden-Wreathed & Beautiful

Golden-Wreathed & Beautiful is an orange sherbet creme with strong yellow tones and turquoise flash. A truly superb formula that went on smooth and even, and looked opaque in just two coats. Pictured here is three coats with top coat.

Femme Fatale Heavenly Raiment

Heavenly Raiment is a rose-pink sheer crelly packed with silver holo micro-glitter and iridescent blue/violet glass flecks, giving it a strong blue sheen. The formula was wonderful and went on smoothly and evenly. This has a sheer, but buildable, look that can be achieved in 2-4 coats, depending on preference. Here I'm wearing about three coats and top coat.

Femme Fatale Horae Awaits

Horae Awaits is a very light, dusty, powder-pink crelly with a strong blue luminescent glow and silver holo micro-glitter, giving it a scattered holo effect. The formula was good, a touch thick, but easy to work with for a smooth, even application. Shown here is three coats with top coat.

Femme Fatale Isle of Cythera

Isle of Cythera is a subdued forest-green with a super strong linear holo effect and golden sparkle. The formula was flawless and applied effortlessly, looking smooth and opaque in two coats. Pictured here with three coats plus top coat.

Femme Fatale Swept Across the Sea

Swept Across the Sea is a deep emerald-teal to golden-tan thermal with iridescent green overlay. My pictures really don't do this color justice, especially because it's so hot out it wouldn't stay in the "cool" color state! This had an excellent formula with sheer, buildable coverage that looked opaque in about three coats. Shown here is three coats and top coat.

Femme Fatale Upon Seafoam

Upon Seafoam is a soft aqua/powder blue creme with a strong iridescent pink/gold flash, a scattered holo effect, and a smattering of silver micro-glitters. Another seriously fantastic formula with anoutstanding application, and full coverage in about two coats. Here I have on three coats with top coat.

Sandro Botticelli "The Birth of Venus"

Homeric Hymn Six to Aphrodite

Of august gold-wreathed and beautiful Aphrodite
I shall sing, to whose domain belong the battlements
of all sea-laved Cyprus where, blown by the moist breath of Zephyros,
she was carried over the waves of the resounding sea
in soft foam. The gold-filleted Horae
happily welcomed her and clothed her with heavenly raiment.
Then on her divine head they placed a well-wrough crown,
beautiful and golden, and in her pierced ears
flowers of brass and precious gold.
Round her tender neck and silver-white breasts
they decked her with golden necklaces such as the gold-filleted
Horae themselves are adorned with whenever they go
to lovely dances of the gods and to their father’s house.
And after they decked her body with every sort of jewel,
they brought her to the immortals, who saw and welcomed her,
giving her their hands and each one wished
that he might take her home as his wedded wife;
for they marveled at the looks of violent-crowned Kythereia.
Hail, honey-sweet goddess with the fluttering eyelids!
Grant me victory in this contest and arrange my song.
And I shall remember you and another song, too.

This set of colors are absolutely gorgeous, like wearable pieces of Botticelli's exquisite painting. I especially love the beautiful contrasting shimmer many of the polishes have. The "Birth of Venus" collection is launching today at 8pm EST on the new US website,10am AEST on the AU website.

  2. o.m.g., your swatches! You make me want every single one of them! They are beautiful polishes. The only one I might have an issue with is the thermal polish. It looks like the blue-ish is the cold color? It figures, that is the part I like. It reminds me of Vapid Sweaters n Denim. I like the cold stage, the blueish color. That dusty peachy color does my skintone no favors!
